Why is Invisalign so great?

Greetings from Dr. Pasch, Dr. Yam, Dr. Shirzadnia and Dr. Song!

Have you ever wondered why you may need Invisalign? Even if you think your teeth look fine, but have even minimal crowding or a slight overbite, it often becomes  the reason for teeth to chip and crack, wear down and can lead to gum disease.  Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease compromises your teeth in general and has a negative impact on your overall health.

Why is Invisalign so great?
The orthodontic correction with Invisalign is done with the help of a number of clear plastic and flexible trays which gently shift and correct the alignment of your teeth.
• Treatment is done through invisible clear plastic trays- no one really knows you are having your teeth corrected;
• Unlike metal braces, Invisalign aligners are easy to remove and clean;
• They do not cause mouth sores and irritations;
• They offer a great level of comfort and convenience;
• They don’t interfere with your lifestyle;
• No food restrictions- you can enjoy any food unlike traditional old- fashioned braces!
• Treatment with Invisalign is fast and effective!
• Computerized model shows your final results even before treatment is started!
• Provides significant positive impact on how you look and feel about yourself!

Let’s face it: Everyone wants to have a great smile- one with straight and gleaming white teeth! However, very few of us are gifted with naturally beautiful teeth! Dental Decay & Sealants

Greetings from Dr. Pasch, Dr. Yam , Dr. Shirzadnia and Dr. Song!

Fluoride has been a great benefit to patients of all ages in helping prevent dental decay. Regular brushing and flossing lowers the chance of developing cavities. However, sometimes good habits alone aren't enough. The most decay-prone areas of teeth are the grooves and depressions on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. These vulnerable areas require further preventive care.

To protect kids' teeth from decay, a plastic-like coating called a sealant should be painted on the chewing surfaces of all the back teeth. It's a simple process that's extremely effective: studies have shown that sealants can reduce tooth decay by as much as 90% to 100%.

The American Dental Association recommends sealants be placed as soon as the first adult back teeth come in at age 6 or 7. Sealants should continue to be used as each adult back tooth comes into the mouth. All back teeth that need to be sealed are present by age 13. Sealant application is simple, fast, and painless.

Please call our office at 212-689-0024 or or email us at with any questions you may have about the benefits of using a sealant in preventing dental decay.

Cleaning My Baby's Teeth

Greetings from Dr. Pasch, Dr. Yam, Dr. Shirzadnia and Dr.Song!

Cleaning you infant's teeth is a habit you should definitely start early! The teeth must be cleaned as they erupt. Use a damp wash cloth or a soft rubber sleeve with toothbrush-like bristles to gently massage gums and the newly erupted baby teeth.

If your pediatrician agrees, use a tiny dab of fluoride toothpaste for infants. Tooth brushing is definitely a parent's job during the preschool years as well. You should always monitor the brushing process to minimize toothpaste swallowing and to ensure proper oral hygiene has been performed.

Children are usually able to brush their teeth well when they are 8 years old. Be sure to check your child's teeth regularly for any chalky white or brown spots which could be the beginning of tooth decay.

If you have questions regarding your baby's teeth, please call our office at 212-689-0024 or email us at today.

Diet and Dental Health

Greetings from Dr. Pasch , Dr. Yam, Dr. Shirzadnia and Dr. Song!

Diets low in certain nutrients reduce resistance to oral and dental infections, that is, periodontal disease also known as gum disease, and tooth decay. A healthy immune system is essential to controlling periodontal disease.

Healthy and nutritional diet will improve dental health and overall health. The consumption of sugar, especially in sticky forms or in a baby bottle while sleeping, contributes to the rapid development of dental decay.

The trace nutrient fluoride, may not be adequately supplied by bottle or municipal water supplies. Supplementation with oral tablets and topical application will reduce the incidence of dental decay by more than 60%. Or, as an alternative please remember to brush with flouridated toothpaste and choose tap water over bottled water, as the tap is surely flouridated whereas tap water usually is not.

Together, a balanced diet, daily use of fluoride, effective brushing and flossing, and sensible eating habits, along with regular dental check ups and preventative visits can reduce the risk of, or even prevent, infectious dental disease.

If you need more information on diet or fluoride supplementation and its relationship to dental health, please don’t hesitate to call our office at (212)689-0024 or email us at today!
