What You Need to Know About Dentures ?

Greetings from Drs. Pasch, Yam, Shirzadnia and Song!

Okay, you have false teeth and  now you think that it should be the end of your dental worry, right?  Well, that is in many cases wrong.

The gum ridges in our mouths can shrink with age, which causes dentures to become loose.  Bone can also shrink, causing jaws not to line up properly.  Ill-fitting dentures can cause sore spots in your mouth and stomach problems, the result of not being able to chew food properly.  A loose denture could also cause changes in your facial features, adding a few more extra years to your young looking  facial expression. Do have in mind though,  that with time dentures wear off and cause the bite to collapse. ADA recommends that dentures be replaced every 4-6 years.

Dentures are breakable! Many of our patients think that once they have a denture made it will serve them for life. They are made of plastic, so they are delicate and fragile, and that makes them susceptible to fractures. During the chewing process different forces are used throughout the upper and lower jaws to masticate your food, and therefore the denture may fracture. Often, the appliance may break  a few days after it initially suffered the fracture. The best  way to approach it is to come in for a quick professional repair in our office even if  the crack is as small as a hair line! That fallen tooth of the denture is also something you should not stress over. Yes, it can be a real night mare depending on the situation , but you can rest assured that we can perform same day denture repair during your lunchtime, so that you can  flow back to your busy schedule in no time!  Most of the denture repairs can be quickly addressed in our professional dental lab on premises within only a couple of hours.

In all cases, a denture-wearer should consider having a spare set, or a duplicate denture, on hand. Having a spare set will eliminate any extreme emergency situations you might experience if you only have one set.

If your dentures are loose, painful or just don't feel right, call our office for a consultation.
They may need to be adjusted, relined or completely remade (if they are completely
worn out). You may have noticed some products that claim to fix dentures.
When we make repairs, we use quality materials that are only available to dentists.
Over the counter product often contain harsh chemicals that only make matters worse and sometimes eliminated the possibility of a professional laboratory repair. Our recommendation is not to use crazy glue to repair your dentures at home.

If you're not satisfied with the look or feel of your dentures, or you have questions regarding dentures please don't hesitate to call our conveniently located  Midtown Manhattan dental office at 212-689-0024 or email us at appts@newyorkdenturedental.com.
